YVETTE LEE- 2021 ARTISTIC DIRECTOR 

With over a decade of choreographic experience Yvette Lee has become one of the country’s most versatile creatives. Recognised for her work across multiple platforms as choreographer, creative director and creative producer her contribution to television, theatre and live touring events has led to a large body of work.

Notable TV credits include: Dancing with the Stars, So You Think You Can Dance, Dance Boss, The Big Music Quiz, X Factor, China’s Next Top Model, Chris Lilly's J'amie Private School Girl & Jonah from Tonga, Cosentino -the Master Illusionist, Dance Hero Japan, Australian Idol, The ARIA Awards, The Logie Awards, So You Think You Can Dance Greece, Nickelodeon Kids Choice Awards, Comedy Inc, Neighbours, The Taiwanese Wiggles for the Disney Chanel, The Pacific’, produced by Stephen Spielberg and Asia’s Got Talent where she was assistant to the Squared Division.

Travis Wall is a two-time Emmy winning choreographer best known for his award winning work on So You Think You Can Dance.
 

Travis has been dancing since he was 3 years old, training with his mother at Denise Wall Dance Energy. In his early years, Travis performed on the Showstopper American Dance Championships television show, where he, along with Dance Energy, won the competition. Travis first got his career started at nine where he was known as the "Dr. Pepper Boy" in their national TV commercial.  He made his Broadway debut in the 2001 revival of The Music Man, playing the roles of Eddie Mason and Barney Hix and understudying the young male lead, Winthrop. As a young dancer Travis won many regional and national dance titles, including Outstanding Male Teen Dancer (in 2003), and he was featured in the book Moving Still: A Live Performance, and later toured with the stage show of the same name.  He has also performed with the American Dance Artists Company. 
 

In 2006, he became the runner-up on So You Think You Can Dance USA, where he later toured with the top 10 dancers as the dance captain. Travis has since become a SYTYCD staple, choreographing for every season and being nominated for nine Emmy’s for his work, as well as choreographing for Dancing with the Stars and the Step Up movie franchise. Travis is in high-demand, working on projects like The Academy Awards and the MTV Video Music Awards and with companies and artists like Los Angeles Ballet, Florence and the Machine, Chelsea Handler, Eminem, Drake, Jennifer Lopez, Demi Lovato and many more.
 

Travis had his own television series, All the Right Moves, where he formed a dance company with fellow artists Teddy Forance, Nick Lazarini and Kyle Robinson. That company, Shaping Sound, has since become widely popular and toured the US to sellout crowds.

 

Wall has stared in several films and even choreographed a floor exercise routine for Olympic All-Around Champion Nastia Liukin!

 

Working between LA and New York, Travis never stops creating. He can’t wait to be at VDF Melbourne thanks to Dance Informa and Energetiks.

Blake John Wood is one of Australia’s newest creative visionaries to hit the entertainment scene. Most recently, Blake has had the privilege of teaming up with Australian pop artist Havana Brown, working as choreographer and movement director on her music video and live performance launch for single “Glimpse”. Furthermore, he was recruited as Creative Director on launch campaigns for Belvedere and Grey Goose Vodka. Blake has explored the fashion field, while simultaneously choreographing editorial film campaigns for fashion labels Premonition Designs and Runaway The Label.

MATT LEE

Matt Lee has just returned to Australia from travelling the UK in his Helpmann Award-winning role as Bert in Mary Poppins the Musical. The Motion Capture Artist for the lovable Mumble from Happy Feet, Matt Lee has a huge list of impressive stage credits including, Singin’ in the Rain, Miss Saigon, The Boy from Oz alongside Hugh Jackman, We Will Rock You, The Witches of Eastwick, Rent, Hot Shoe Shuffle, Grease the Arena Spectacular, Oh! What A Night…and the list goes on.

Nadia Tornese was soooo popular at our Regional event this year that we simply had to ask her back!

Nadia has fast become a highly sort after choreographer. Her career has led her to work across all areas of the industry from television to stage and live events. Nadia’s TV credits include The Wrong Girl, Neighbours and TV Week Logies - Meghan Trainor (Assistant Choreographer).

Nadia’s live events and stage credits include Justice Crew for The Australian Open, Carrie Bickmore’s Brain Beats, Nickelodeon Kids Tennis Day for The Australian Open (Co-Choreographer), Diamonds Spiegeltent (Co-Choreographer), Le Femme & the Male Minority (Co-Choreographer), Short & Sweet Dance Festival Melbourne, and events for Nova FM Australia Day and Vega/Smooth FM Suburban Superstar.


In addition, Nadia is a sought-after teacher for workshops Australia wide and operates her own company Steps & Sounds; which offers Music Production, Workshops and Entertainment.

Jake Burden of Ballet Brothers started dancing at the age of 9. He was a Royal Ballet associate before accepting a place at The Hammond School of Dance. After three years of training in ballet, jazz, tap, contemporary and musical theatre Jake accepted a place at Elmhurst Ballet School in association with Birmingham Royal Ballet. During his time as a student he performed for the British Royal family at a private event at Windsor castle. Jake then joined Birmingham Royal Ballet on their UK tour, 2009.

 

Following this Jake was asked to guest perform in the USA for Boca Ballet Theatre in Swan Lake. Jake then went onto accept a soloist contract with Magdeburg Ballet (Germany) and flew through the ranks to principal at the age of 19. Some of his roles include Basilio, Nutcracker Prince and Drummer Boy. In Magdeburg Germany he was awarded the Young Dancer of the Year Award in 2011. During his time in Germany Jake also appeared in musicals including West Side Story, Beauty and the Beast, Evita and Hello Dolly. Jake joined Leipzig Ballet (Contemporary Company Germany) in 2013.

Following this Jake joined Singapore Dance Theatre; during his time there he was exposed to many gifted choreographers and performed many Balanchine works. The Company also performed for Cambodian Royalty at the Cambodian Palace.

 

Jake moved to Australia in 2016. He is a senior ballet and contemporary teacher at National College of Dance, a member of Australian Dance Adjudicators and a freelance choreographer. Jake is the Founder and Director of Ballet Brothers, an organization aiming to bring together and support all male dancers. 

 

Jake and Ballet Brothers comes to VDF for the first time thanks to Royal Academy of Dance Project B - Encouraging and supporting boys to dance. #RADProjectB

JULIET DOHERTY

Ballet and Movie Star Juliet Doherty will be coming from the USA to teach, perform and inspire thanks to MDM Dance!

The beautiful Juliet is a two time Gold Medallist at the world’s largest ballet competition, the Youth America Grand Prix, and she received the Special Jury Prize at the Beijing International Ballet Competition in China. She trained at the San Francisco Ballet School on full scholarship from 2012-2015.

An accomplished actor as well as dancer, Juliet has appeared as the lead in two feature films, On Pointe and recently, the new High Strung: Free Dance. Juliet performs as an international guest artist, and most recently appeared in the lead role of Lise in the Tony award winning musical An American in Paris at the Hale Center Theater.


Juliet has performed at Lincoln Center in NYC, the Kennedy Center in Washington D.C., toured the USA with the world famous Rockettes and performed at Radio City Music Hall. At the age of 15, Juliet was a featured TEDx speaker. She spoke about empowering young artists and people alike to achieve their dreams through mindful practice. 

Juliet is an MDM Muse, and she will not only teach workshops at VDF, but also perform in the On Stage with VDF showcase

MITCHELL WOODCOCK
Mitchell Woodcock has established himself as one of Australia's most sought after Performers, Choreographers and creative directors. Mitchell has worked alongside director Al Weeks as movement director for the Karl Lagerfeld X Modelco video Campaign. His choreography was also seen at the world premiere of the film Les Miserables and at the debut season of PACHA launched by Merivale. During this time he graced our screens as the youngest ever choreographer in the history of So You Think You Can Dance. Other choreography and creative credits include, Prix de Marie Claire Fashion Awards, Playstation's 20th anniversary, The Voice, Tv Week Logie Awards, Aria Awards, RCTI29 (Jakarta) and movement director on Naomi Campbell’s The Face Tv series. 

Mitchell has previously directed and choreographed live performances for James Arthur, George Ezra, Amy Shark, Conrad Sewell, Noah Kahan, Samantha Jade, Starley, Deborah Cox, The Veronicas, Betty Who, Client Liaison, Steve Grand and Conchita. 

As a performer, Mitchell was cast in the role of A-rab at the age of 17 in the Australian production of West Side Story directed by Joey McKneely. Mitchell toured with the Australian cast in the Broadway musical Wicked in 2011/2012 and quickly joined the international tour of West Side Story in the role of Dance Captain at the age of twenty. Since then Mitch has performed in Guys and Dolls, Dirty Dancing and Tony Award winning Best musical Kinky Boots. 

Mitchell has appeared as a featured dancer in Baz Lurhmann's The Great Gatsby, ABC’s Dance Academy, The XFactor, Young Talent Time, The Voice, Mornings with Kerri-Anne, So you think you can dance, The Disney Channel and Australia’s Next top model. 

Over the years Mitchell has had the privilege of backup dancing for Kelly Rowland, Ricky Martin, Kylie Minogue, Will.i.am, Joel Madden, Delta Goodrem, Geri Halliwell, Olivia Newton-John, Natalie Bassingthwaighte and Sneaky Sound System for various performances in Australia.

Born and raised in Melbourne, Trevor Santos is a highly sought after mentor and choreographer both locally and internationally. With accolades including; Hip Hop International, Heavy Weight Urban Dance Championships, Judging the Australian Dance Crew Championships, Choreographing for The Australian Open 2017 & 2018, UDO’s 2016 & 2018 champions KSTAR and ‘Love is Love’ Dance Editorial (Sydney).

 

Trevor has worked alongside notable national and international music artists Vera Blue, Missy Higgins, Kira Puru, Sheppard, Mstr Rogers, Marvin Priest, Yeo and Hangeng.  He has also performed for Peter Alexander, Boost Juice, Porsche, Subaru, Nitro Athletics, Dance Editorial’s ‘7 Vices’ and Australia’s number one Michael Jackson tribute show; The King of Pop Show starring TJ. 

 

Trevor is now leading the ‘Melbourne’s Own’ dance movement providing real opportunities for the community to come together to grow and learn.

PAUL MALEK
Paul Malek returns to VDF this year!!! VDF will be the ONLY student Festival that Paul will teach at this year, so don't miss him!


Paul is one of the most highly regarded Directors and Choreographers in Australia. With a passion for education, self-empowerment and artistic innovation; he inspires many individuals, businesses and communities to strive towards becoming the greatest version of themselves possible whilst nurturing artistic development and professional growth. 

Trained in Classical Ballet and Contemporary Dance at the Victorian College of the Arts Secondary School, his performing career saw him tour the world through all 5 continents as dancer, dance captain, rehearsal director and company manager all before the age of 25. Returning to Australia in 2006, he became an avid entrepreneur, creating businesses such as Collaboration the Project (2008 – 2014), responsible for events such as UNDRGRND Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane, Immersed Melbourne Dance Industry Night, DANCE CHAT and DANCE CHAT LIVE, Project Y (youth dance company) and over 16 professional production seasons and tours. Paul Malek is the original Founder and Director of popular Melbourne Dance Institute MAPA Australia (2006 – 2011), and was also the co-director of BOOM Media, a Marketing and Media Company, For Dancers by Dancers (2011 – 2015).

A Choreographic regular on So You Think You Can Dance Australia and Dancing with the Stars, Paul has been the choreographic brains of well over a hundred corporate events, award ceremonies, television commercials, music videos and dance festivals over the last decade. 

He is the much-loved former Artistic Director of the Victorian Dance Festival, and the current President of the Australian Teachers of Dancing International Board of Directors. 

In 2015, Malek founded Transit Dance, and currently resides as Artistic Director overseeing the immense output of performance platforms and educational opportunities created from within their state-of-the-art dance and performance precinct in Brunswick, Victoria. Such platforms include Transit Dance Company, Origins Dance Company, Transit Dance Pre-Professional Full-Time Courses, Transit Origins Academy, Dance Architect Choreographic Award and Education Summit along with a number of touring intensives, workshops and teacher professional development opportunities. During his day to day commitments at Transit Dance, he is also a highly sought-after Host and Inspirational Speaker, speaking at many corporate events, conventions and festivals not only in Australia but across the globe.

MATTHEW PRESCOTT
Matthew Prescott is coming to VDF for the first time thanks to Joffrey Ballet School of New York!

Matthew Prescott was a member of the Joffrey Ballet for several years before becoming a freelance artist. Working as a freelancer, Matthew has worked and performed with Donald Byrd’s Spectrum Dance Theater, Alonzo King’s LINES Ballet, Ballet NY, Complexions Contemporary Ballet, Amanda Miller, The Suzanne Farrell Ballet, The Alabama Ballet, Armitage Gone! Dance, BalletX, The Lyric Opera of Chicago, Morphoses the Wheeldon Company, and Dance Theatre of Harlem. 

Matthew was featured in Robert Altman’s film The Company. Matthew has choreographed works performed by Complexions Contemporary Ballet, Chamber Dance Project, the Joffrey Ballet School, BalletX, Interlochen Arts Academy, for Misty Copeland for Prince’s Coming to America 2010 Madison Square Garden performances, as well as the Vail International Dance Festival. 

Matthew was the Resident Choreographer on the national tour of Billy Elliot as well as performing the roll of Older Billy. Matthew made his Broadway debut on Broadway in the cast of Phantom of the Opera.

Matthew teaches a killer class and he will challenge and inspire you.

JILL ANN WOLINS

Jill Ann Wolins, from the USA, is thrilled to be coming to VDF thanks to Platinum Sponsor STARPOWER! The Radio City Rockette and Broadway star has danced, toured and taught around the globe hitting countries like Canada, Mexico, UK, Russia, South Africa, United Arab Emirates, China, and Japan. She received her BFA in Dance from the State University of New York, and continued her studies receiving scholarships at Duke University (ADF), Giordano Chicago, and Steps on Broadway NYC. 

Jill Ann started her performing career at Disney in Orlando, then moved to New York to join the world famous Radio City Rockettes, over ten years. Jill joined the first Broadway National Tour of The Producers, and also performed in Broadway touring productions of the Will Rogers Follies, Grease, and Sweet Charity.

TV and film credits include The Producers Movie (Universal Pictures), numerous appearances on The Late Show (CBS), Disney’s Christmas Special (ABC), many Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parades (NBC), and appearing as the Special Guest Host of the tour through Radio City Music Hall on the FOX Morning Show. Speaking of Macy’s and NBC, Jill was also the Associate Choreographer of the Opening Camp Broadway segment of the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, 2007 (NBC). She has also been seen on stage with recording artists like Bon Jovi, Debra Gibson, and Nile Rodgers with Chic.


Jill currently serves as master teacher, choreographer, and host for Star Dance Alliance National and International events. She is the resident choreographer for the Power Pak Summer Dance Intensives and Battle of the Stars at Starpower International Talent Competitions. Jill is the master teacher of the Top Gun Audition Workshops at Starpower, and on Faculty of the WILD Dance Intensive American tour. Jill is the co-director of the World Dance Pageant, and co-host of the World Dance Championships (NYC). Jill’s loves to adjudicate, and has judged so many dance competitions and Starpower Battles of the Stars, she lost count.

Jill has published two popular books for young dancers based on her “Are You Ready” Seminars. Her first, “Dance Competitions: Are You Ready?” discusses the competition scene and how to thrive. The second, “Are you Ready for The Next Step?” prepares dancers for college/university and the professional dance industry. As a member of AEA, SAG/AFTRA, and AGVA performers’ unions, Jill wants to share secrets of the dance industry to ensure success.

SARAH BOULTER

Sarah will be coming to VDF thanks to Studio 7 Dancewear!

After a successful international career, the beautiful Sarah Boulter has returned to Australia to continue developing her choreography. As a dancer Sarah was often employed due to her choreographic talent and has worked with well-known choreographers and directors in a collaborative manner.

 

Choreographic credits include Enter The Vortex by the Dream Dance Company, Dance Academy the Come Back film, The Opening Ceremony of the Arab Games (David Atkins Enterprises), SYTYCD UK and Australian seasons 1,2,3 & 4, Dance Academy ABC3, The Voice for Jennifer Hudson, Dance Boss, Puberty Blues, Loreal, Samsung, The Queens 50th Celebration (London), Fashion Week, Giggle & Hoot….and the impressive list goes on.
 

Meryl Tankard’s Kiadan saw Sarah display her choreographic ingenuity, while creating alongside this world-renowned choreographer as well as a team of Tiakoz drummers.

Sarah spent two years living in Las Vegas, where she had the amazing opportunity of performing in the Celine Dion show A New Day, working with great names such as Mia Michaels and Franco Dragone.
 

As well as performing and creating Sarah finds passion in teaching. She has taught all around the world receiving much acclaim. Sarah is sought after for her contemporary works and find’s great pleasure in sharing her knowledge to up and coming dancers.

ELYSIA BAKER
The stunning Elysia Baker will be turning up the heat with Salsa & Latin at VDF 2019! Elysia is the current Australian Salsa & Latin Champion and ranked 2nd in the world in the professional Cha Cha at the World Salsa Summit, USA. 

A former ballet dancer, Elysia transitioned into the Salsa industry over 10 years ago where she has worked her way quickly up the ranks to be recognised as one of the industry’s most respected artists. She competes professionally and currently teaches in Melbourne as well as at congresses around Australia and the world. 

Elysia’s wealth of dance knowledge and training in a variety of dance styles (including Salsa, Cha Cha, Ballet, Contemporary and more) lends itself to well-rounded training techniques. Her dance travel lifestyle gives her fresh insight into the ever-evolving world of dance, which she brings back to infuse into her own
teaching and training techniques. Elysia's beautiful personality combined with her dynamic choreography, power, body movement and flexibility, forges together to create exciting shows and insightful and fun dance classes.

ARNA SINGLETON

Arna Singleton
 aka Robotgirl (RBTGRL), is a highly respected and sought after professional hip hop/urban choreographer, performer and dance event organiser. She has taught thousands of workshops, choreographed for various events, performed on TV (SYTYCD, Australia’s Got Talent, AFL Footy Show Player Revue to name a few) and was chosen via a dance audition process to dance with Madonna in Canada.
 

Over the years she has skill developed thousands of dancers and has contributed to the professional development for so many interested in the urban dance world. Arna is known for the running and creation of dance crew competition, Step Off, and bringing the elements of hip hop together at Our Backyard at the Arts Centre. She is highly recognised within her field and is considered one of the leaders for the urban dance industry.

Arna is the Director for her own all age urban dance company, The Legacy & Co, who experienced their first successful year with a sold out show, Her Name is Alice, at the Gasworks theatre in 2018. We can't wait to have Arna, and The Legacy & Co at VDF 2019!

KATE WORMALD

Kate Wormald-Leopold is one of Australia's best performers, choreographers and dance directors. As a dancer she has worked with some of the world’s best choreographers, directors and music stars including George Miller, Baz Luhrmann, Wade Robson, Kelley Abbey, Jason Gilkison, The Squared Division, William Forsythe, David Atkins, Nathan Wright, Michael Gracey, Ashley Wallen, John O’Connell, KE$HA, Robbie Williams, Macy Gray, Natalie Bassingthwaighte, Guy Sebastian and Ricky Martin to name a few.

Her success as ‘Australia’s Favourite Female Dancer’ on So You Think You Can Dance, Australia Series 1 sky rocketed an already successful career to new heights.

Kate’s very recent credits include Associate Head of Choreography & Staging for the Opening Ceremony of the 2018 Commonwealth Games on the Gold Coast, Feature film DORA the Explorer, TV Series THE END and HARROW. Choreographer for P&O Cruises production show SEVEN and Choreographer for Channel 7’s Dance Boss. She was also the Choreographer for the launch event for the Azerbaijan Islamic Solidarity Games and worked in Creative Management for The Squared Division on The Voice Australia working with artists Jennifer Hudson and Noah Cyrus.

Jill Hillier of the USA will teach Norwegian Cruise Line’s Cruise Repertoire and Audition Technique class as well as host Norwegian’s Cruise Audition at VDF.

 

Jill has had the great fortune of experiencing a successful career not only as a dancer but also as a choreographer and director. For the last 17 years she has created and choreographed numerous shows for Holland America, Celebrity, Carnival, Norwegian Cruise Line and Oceana cruise lines. She just recently finished as associate director to acclaimed tour director Jamie King on Ricky Martin’s “All In”  residency in Las Vegas and Nicki Minaj’s performance at amfAR in Canne. She’s worked with Jamie on several other projects including Jennifer Lopez’s Dance Again tour, QViva Live at Mandalay Bay, Celine Dion’s Taking Chances Tour, and The Spice Girls Reunion Tour. She is also the choreographer/creative director for Straight No Chaser’s live tours.  

 

For television, Jill just worked with Simon Cowell’s new boyband PRETTYMUCH on their performance at the TCAs. She was recently seen on the VH1 Ricky Martin special and on Q Viva the Chosen for Fox, MTV’s Made, and USA’s The Moment. Famous YouTuber Todrick Hall had Jill coordinate and co choreograph his opening number at Nickelodeon’s 2014 Kids Choice Awards as well as numerous YouTube videos. 

 

Other TV credits include artists Celine Dion, Prince, A Great Big World, Straight No Chaser, Big Time Rush, IM5, Barry Manilow, Geri Halliwell, Ann-Margret, Engelbert Humperdinck and Eva Longoria.

 

When Jill was a dancer, she performed with such celebrities as Prince, Carmen Electra, Juliet Prowse, Thelma Houston, Tony Bennett, and many others.  She has performed in regional theatre and national tours of shows like Grease, George M!, Beauty and the Beast, My One and Only, Brigadoon, and Sesame Street Live.  She’s been seen dancing on Norwegian and Holland America Cruise Lines and in numerous commercials, industrials, and park shows for the Walt Disney Company.

jASON COLEMAN

As a dancer, actor, choreographer, director, producer, and personality, Jason Coleman has covered more show business territory than most. Jason’s music industry credits include Tina Arena, Kylie Minogue, Samantha Jade, Olly Murs, Human Nature, Bardot, John Farnham, Vanessa Amorossi, Bee Gees, Kate Cebrano, and Megan Washington. He also performed on the same bill as Whitney Houston and Frank Sinatra.


Jason choreographed the opening and closing ceremonies of the 2000 Sydney Olympic Games and the Commonwealth Games in Manchester and Glasgow.
Jason’s television credits include; Popstars, the Footy Show, the Midday Show, the TV Week Logie Awards, and The Kitchen Musical (Asia), So You Think You Can Dance Australia (judge from 2008 - 2010), Celebrity Apprentice, and Australia’s Got Talent.


Jason’s Musical Theatre credits include; Little Shop of Horrors, Sweet Charity, Fame, The Man from Snowy River, Hair, Chicago, A Chorus Line, Saturday Night Fever, Dancin’ Man, Dancin’ Dynamite and Hairspray.

 

Jason launched his own entertainment empire Jason Coleman's Ministry of Dance in 2008, which is currently the largest dance facility in the world. He has recently produced successful seasons of his own shows The Rhythm of Life, Razzle Dazzle, and The Humanimals at his world-first, mobile theatre venue; his “Cabaret Cathedral”.

LUCY DOHERTY & ROB MCLEAN

Rob McLean & Lucy Doherty are an Australian dance duo who are taking the dance world by storm in a completely refreshing way. Rob and Lucy approach their art and work with heart, soul and the overarching intention of highlighting the power that dance has to connect people to themselves and to others.

Esteemed professional performers and choreographers in their individual rights, Lucy & Rob have a string of impressive performance and choreographic credits to their names individually as well as together including The Dream Dance Company, Justin Beiber, Jason Derulo, Courtney Act, Rita Ora, Dance Boss, Eurovision, XFactor, Dance Academy and So You Think You Can Dance Australia to name just a few.

 

Rob & Lucy have recently developed a program and workshop class called ‘More Than Movement’ which has a strong focus on creativity and connection. The workshop explores various improvisation and choreographic tools whilst creating a safe space for dancers to explore and deepen their connection to themselves and to others through movement.

Rob and Lucy have had an incredible response from delivering the "More Than Movement' workshop at dance events across Australia, and they can't wait to bring it to VDF 2019. They also run a weekly program under the same title in both Sydney and Melbourne through their company One Dance Collective.
