The Joffrey Ballet School is thrilled to return to the VDF Dance Festival! This year, Matthew Prescott and TRIX will be coming direct from the School in New York City to teach classes in Ballet, Jazz and Contemporary, Musical Theatre and Hip Hop!
Participating students will be considered for placement and potential merit-based scholarship to our worldwide summer intensives in Ballet, Jazz & Contemporary, Musical Theater and Hip Hop. Some dancers will even be invited to join our year-round Trainee Program in New York City or our Pre-Professional Programs in Texas and Los Angeles!

To participate in Joffrey Ballet School Masterclass Auditions, please pre-register online or at the Joffrey Ballet School Booth at VDF before the class. You must visit the Joffrey Ballet School Booth to pick up your participant number. Without this number you will not be eligible for a scholarship.

Those participating in the Musical Theatre Masterclass Audition must also be prepared to sing 8-16 bars of a song of your choice a capella, should you be invited to a call-back session taking place on Sun 14 April 1pm, Studio 6.
The masterclasses are part of the VDF Weekend lineup, and only available to VDF ticket holders.

Teachers are welcome to come and watch to gleam some inspiration from our guest teachers and witness a class. Teachers attending Vitality Teacher Day are also welcome and their Teacher Day pass grants access to all the weekend classes to join in or watch.

matthew prescott

Matthew Prescott, born and raised in Idaho, graduated high school from Interlochen Arts Academy and attended the inaugural year of the Joffrey/New School in New York City. In 2000, he joined the Joffrey Ballet for a number of years before setting out as a freelance artist.
​
Working as a freelancer, Matthew has worked and performed with Donald Byrd’s Spectrum Dance Theater, Alonzo King’s LINES Ballet, Ballet NY, Complexions Contemporary Ballet, Amanda Miller, The Suzanne Farrell Ballet, The Alabama Ballet, Armitage Gone! Dance, BalletX, The Lyric Opera of Chicago, Morphoses the Wheeldon Company, and Dance Theatre of Harlem.
​
Matthew was featured in Robert Altman’s film, The Company. He has choreographed works performed by Complexions Contemporary Ballet, Chamber Dance Project, the Joffrey Ballet School, BalletX, Interlochen Arts Academy, for Misty Copeland for Prince’s Coming to America 2010 Madison Square Garden performances, as well as the Vail International Dance Festival. Matthew was the Resident Choreographer on the national tour of Billy Elliot as well as performing the roll of Older Billy. Matthew made his Broadway debut in the cast of Phantom of the Opera.
TRIX
HIP HOP

“TRIX” is a very talented HipHop Choreographer/Performer with over 12 years dance experience and 10 years of teaching experience.
​
Trix has appeared on Bet’s Hit Show 106 & Park several times as a champion contestant and also as a Dance Week guest performer. He was also a finalist on So You Think You Can Dance Season 9.
Trix has had the pleasure of working and performing at Walt Disney World in Orlando Florida, doing multiple performances and parades across all 4 property parks! From the Theme Parks to the Basketball court, he was asked to choreograph a halftime performance for the Orlando Magics Dance Team. Trix is currently a guest faculty member at Broadway Dance Center and Peridance. In addition to those well-known schools, he is also a Choreographer for the Joffrey Ballet Schools HipHop Program and its audition tour recruiting talent from all over the states for the summer intensives!
