Jacopo Grabar

Sydney Dance Company dancer/educator Jacopo Grabar spoke to VDF ahead of his debut in 2024 to talk about his favourite dancer, signature move and most influential teachers...

Shout out to the teacher/instructor who influenced you most and tell us why. "My very first teacher in my hometown’s dance school, Corrado Canulli. He saw something in me and invested time and effort in making me believe that I, too, could have been a professional dancer one day."

If you could dance with anyone past or present who would it be and why?

"It would probably be Audrey Hepburn and Fred Astaire. I would love to experience their energy and learn from their innate ability to entertain and make audiences smile."

What is your signature/go-to dance move?

"Any kind of roll or slide, as grounded as I can be."

VDF is all about community and dance friends getting together to celebrate the thing that they love and to grow together. Who are your dance friends and how do they help you grow as a dancer?

"Throughout my career, I made dance friends all around the world. In every company I worked for, I had the privilege of sharing the stage and learning from incredible artists from diverse backgrounds, some of whom I am still in touch with to this day! My most recent experience was with Sydney Dance Company, where I met incredible dancers who I respect as artists and people and I call friends."

Why do you think dancers should come to VDF?

"Anyone who is willing to experience dance in different shapes and forms and is up for a challenge should definitely come!"
