Audition to be part of Spark!
at Studio 7 Ignite 2026.
Spark! will be a mass dance number uniting dancers from across Australia to celebrate dance and all it means to us.
The piece, to be performed at Ignite 26, will be choreographed by VDF Artistic Director Maxwell Trengove and sponsored by Ignite presenting partner, Studio 7 Dancewear. Every dancer will have the extraordinary opportunity to work with Max, meet new dance friends, dance their hearts out, and perform in a stunning Studio 7 costume - that they can then take home!
Rehearsals will begin in May 2026, in Melbourne. Choreography will be taught via video prior to in person rehearsals.
All participants must have a VDF pass, as this experience is part of the VDF weekend of activities. There is no extra cost to be involved in Spark!
Ages 8 and above.
Interstate dancers are more than welcome, but rehearsals will be held in Melbourne.
To be eligible to perform in SPARK! you must:

All dancers must be VDF participants with a VDF weekend ticket.

All dancers must complete all questions below in the application form. Acceptance will be at the discretion of the Spark team including VDF Directors and Studio 7.

Dancers will be expected to have learned the choreography sent to them prior to attending the in-person rehearsals.

Dancers must commit to being available for a minimum of three out of four in-person rehearsals.

Sunday 3 May 2025 – 10:30am – 2:30pm*

Sunday 10 May 2025 – 10:30am – 2:30pm*

Sunday 17 May 2025 – 10:30am – 4:30pm

Friday 22 May 2025 – on stage dress rehearsal at Melbourne Showgrounds, after 5pm – exact time to be confirmed.
The rehearsal on 17 May 2025 and Friday 22 May 2025 are mandatory and all performers wishing to participate in Spark must attend both rehearsals.
In addition, all dancers selected for Spark must attend a rehearsal on 3 May 2025 or 10 May 2025, or both, if they are available.
The rehearsals on 3, 10 and 17 May 2025 will take place at Bentleigh Calisthenics, 11 Walter Street Moorabbin Victoria.

All dancers will be fitted for their costumes immediately before or after the rehearsals on 3 and 10 May 2025. Studio 7 retail outlet is located across the road from the rehearsal venue and fittings will take place at the time of these rehearsals.

Dancers will be professionally filmed during rehearsals and the video content will be used for promotional purposes by Victorian Dance Festival and Studio 7 Dancewear. All participants in Spark provide their consent to be filmed as part of the rehearsal and performance process.

As this performance is part of Ignite, family and friends will need to purchase an Ignite ticket to watch the performance.
