Musical Theatre

Bio

Thern has had an impressive and varied career in Musical Theatre.


He was cast in his first professional show in 1989 while still in high school – it was the original Australian production of 42nd Street. Thern has barely stopped since.

 

His career has taken him all over Australia, Europe, Asia & the Middle East and has seen him take on many challenges as Resident Director, Choreographer, Resident Choreographer, Dance Captain, Ensemble member, Understudy and Swing.

 

Thern was most recently the Resident Choreographer on Groundhog Day directed by Matthew Warchus and choreographed Hairspray for Crown Theatre in Perth.

 

In 2023, Thern was the Resident Director/Choreographer for Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat directed by Laurence Connor which played at Melbourne’s Regent Theatre and Sydney’s Capitol Theatre and he choreographed All Shook Up for Crown Theatre Perth.

 

Thern was a Resident Director/Choreographer for The Rocky Horror Show for the Gordon Frost Organisation, Resident Director for Cabaret at the Athenaeum Theatre and he directed Flinders Street for Magnormas.

 

His extensive Dance Captain credits include: Chess, An Officer & A Gentleman; Rock of Ages; CHICAGO; RENT; Miss Saigon and Happy Days the Arena Spectacular; Thern’s performance credits include, 2021 tour of Chess, Jekyll & Hyde 25th Anniversary Concert, Evita, Funny Girl, Dream Lover, Brit in We Will Rock You, The Production Company's Jesus Christ Superstar and Evita for Opera Australia.

 

Further Australian performance credits include West Side Story, Easter Parade, Red Hot & Rhonda, My Fair Lady, Wing in Hot Shoe Shuffle, Happy Days the Arena Spectacular; Miss Saigon; CHESS, The Boy from Oz, RENT; Tulsa in Gypsy, CHICAGO; Joseph in Joseph & The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Play The Game, Lewis in Pippin, Billy Lawlor in 42nd Street (Green Room Award Nomination), The Mayor/Paul Gill in Rock of Ages; An Officer & A Gentleman, Mary Poppins and South Pacific.

 

Thern’s London/West End performance credits include The Cherries Man in FOSSE, Tonight’s The Night, Mind The Gap and Chicago Lebanon tour. He has appeared in the feature films: The Deb, Moulin Rouge and De-Lovely.
