Dancers talk Dancers with Maxwell Trengove

We caught up with Maxwell Trengove Commercial and Musical Theatre choreographer direct from his new home in the UK, to talk about his favourite dancer, signature move and most influential teachers...

Shout out to the teacher/instructor who influenced you most and tell us why. "Troy Phillips and Shannon Holtzapffel. They both have the most incredible movement quality, they could teach by showing you how it should look, which is just so much more valuable than only telling you."

If you could dance with anyone past or present who would it be and why?

"Gene Kelly. He was just the best to ever do it."

What is your signature/go-to dance move?

"I don't know if I have a signature move but over here in London, I've definitely become known for fast footwork."

VDF is all about community and dance friends getting together to celebrate the thing that they love and to grow together. Who are your dance friends and how do they help you grow as a dancer?

"My dance best friends are Nadia Tornese and Yvette Lee. They always remind me that it's not only about what you do but it's about how you get it done. They are the epitome of professionalism and some of the best people I know. Pure fun."

Why do you think dancers should come to VDF?

"It's so great to get to learn from different teachers and choreographers whenever you can but also to dance with other dancers that you might not have met before. We can learn so much about dancing not just from the people teaching but from everyone around us. Keep those eyes open, there are lessons to be learned everywhere!"
